Deep inside Siberia there is a lake, one of thousands others. And in the middle of this lake there is a small island. And on this island has been found an ancient fortress, which is dated to being at least 1500 years old. Excavations are needed in order to reveal all its view for visitors, but even now from the air its a nice site in different times of the year. FDIC preparing for nationwide bank failures

WASHINGTON — The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. is taking steps to brace for an increase in failed financial institutions as the nation’s housing and credit markets continue to worsen.
The FDIC is looking to bring back 25 retirees from its division of resolutions and receiverships. Many of these agency veterans likely worked for the FDIC during the late 1980s and early 1990s, when more than 1,000 financial institutions failed amid the savings-and-loan crisis. » Read more

A material that can create rewritable holograms could bring 3D displays to the home, or provide dramatically high-capacity computer memory, US researchers say.
A layer of the material can record a holographic image, erase it, and replace it with another in a few minutes. While technological challenges remain, the researchers are confident they can advance the technology to refresh pictures at video frame rates of around 30 times a second. » Read more
